Shopping on Newbury street just got a whole lot easier. I just discovered Newbury street has its own website.

The site makes it convenient to sign up for DailyDeals and find a lunch spot to relax. Looking for a place for alterations? The site lists not only tailoring spots on Newbury but also on the surrounding streets.

For those of us who prefer to go straight to bargain shopping they have a list of consignment shops and how to get there.

The facebook marketing book explains how the network that was once for college students makes it easy for any-body’s business to create a page.

A very useful tool I learned about is that the new facebook actually allows businesses to analyze data that is automatically created for you. Businesses can see what posts generate the most traffic and when and use the information to increase page interaction.

Tips on organization and effective language will help make a business page look sleek and increase traffic. The book provides images of tools like custom tabs and customer incentives.

Bad facebook marketing is defined as empty fields of information and event invites posted without images.

The book tells any reader what they may not have been aware of; that their page has potential with the tools facebook now offers. The problem with the book is that it does not offer a how-to guide.

As a senior at Emmanuel I recently realized my time here is quickly passing before me. I sinfully spent the last hour on this oddly warm Friday afternoon searching for free fashion movies online. Sad but true I resorted to watching Beauty and the Briefcase a not so trendy film featuring Hillary Duff. Although the thought of May is bittersweet I definitely won’t miss Emmanuel College’s limited Internet access.

As part of my plan to make the next two months inspiring I am making a list on a trend site I frequent DailyCandy . It includes some local hot spots targeted for the fashion savvy to be sure not to miss any local events, great boutiques, and hidden cafes.

I will be attending local events such as Shecky’s Girls Night out Boston (GIRLS ONLY sorry boys). If anyone is interested get your tickets now before they sell out!

I am looking forward to attending on March 24th. I purchased a ticket last semester and was unable to attend. If anyone (ladies of course) wants to join me let me know! I plan on coming home with lots of free goodies!

By Laura Adrien

Welcome back fellow writers, contributors, and readers! For those who already know Le Renard, we hope that you are as excited as we are to begin another semester; for those who are just starting out at Emmanuel, we hope that we will get to know your faces and voices more as the semester progresses.

We have many exciting plans in the works which we hope will garner much support and interest in our little club. Currently, we are collaborating with BANG! Magazine, EC Radio and a few faculty members to ‘upgrade our facilities’ in many different aspects. As nothing is set in stone just yet, there is plenty of room for fresh ideas and even fresher voices.

If you want to see what we’re all about, Le Renard meets every Monday night at 8pm in WSC 113. Come down to ask questions, to listen to what we’re about, or just to meet new people on campus. We look forward making great connections with people and an even greater semester!

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me, Laura Adrien at adriela@emmanuel.edu or you can find Alison Amorello on the portal.

By Jim Chandley

I’ve been involved with this paper for three years and change now. In three hours I will take my last final at Emmanuel College and no longer be an active member of the club. So to the few of you who may still read our website, I want to say thank you.

I set out to make this online publication a staple in the life of students at Emmanuel, and in that regard, I failed. However, I somewhat voluntarily abandoned that pursuit because I realized just how important it was to the student body and especially to the members of our club that we print a hard copy of the paper, and in that regard, we succeeded beyond any expectations except my own.

I think we had a great year, and that should come has no surprise because we had a great staff.

And the best is yet to come. In the works for next year is a media center, a place where members of Le Renard, Emmanuel College Radio, and BANG! Magazine will be able to create their products and collaborate on new ones. Why no one had this idea before is beyond me, but I had the privilege of sitting in on a meeting this week with members of the faculty and staff as well as students from Le Renard and ECR, and the idea was proposed and deemed feasible by the authorities present.

The hope is that this new media center will be online when you all get back here next September. I can only imagine the kinds of great things this will bring to our little campus. Get out there, get innovative, and put this new space to the use it should be put to. You will do great things.

With that, I leave you all with my sincere thanks. It has been a great year, a great four years, and an experience that I will cherish. Don’t stop working, don’t stop dreaming and creating, and most of all, don’t stop being the biggest little newspaper and campus that anyone’s ever seen. You (the members of the staff and the students of this college) have done more amazing things in more amazing ways than anyone would think possible for such a small group. It’s been an honor and a pleasure working with you.

If this is your first year attending our lovely little school, you probably have no idea that we have a campus radio station. Heck, this might be your eighth consecutive semester at Emmanuel College and you probably still don’t realize it.

Believe it or not, it exists.

It may not be Emerson’s WERS 88.9FM, sometimes it may not even have listeners, but ECRadio has been a refuge for the music junkies and would-be disc jockeys of 400 The Fenway since 2003.

“It may be a small club, but at the heart,” said 2007 graduate and founding member Brian Shea, “ECRadio is an organization that helps students to learn new skills and have fun while doing it. When I think back to my time at Emmanuel, I can’t help but remember the fun that I had broadcasting with my friends.”

Once buried in the bowels of the Cardinal Cushing Library, the station now broadcasts (or would broadcast) over the internet airwaves from the basement of the St. Joe’s hall. Due to countless unforeseen complications with broadcast servers over the past year and a half, ECRadio has shifted its focus from radio programming to live shows. With acts ranging from Kevin Devine to Frogball, Transit to Matt Pond PA, or Paul Baribeau to Daniel Striped Tiger, the generally free-or-suggested-donation-based shows have pulled in audiences on par with the publicized events of larger clubs with far superior budgets.

“Even though we have been treated like the underdogs here at Emmanuel,” said Christopher O’Toole, former co-host of Chocolate Shakes & Birthday Cakes and current club secretary, “we have successfully held great events on campus that brought together students and community members.”

Now here’s where you come in, beautiful underclassmen of Emmanuel College! The conclusion of this spring semester will not only bring about the end of ECRadio’s current executive board, but potentially the end of ECRadio altogether. For the much loved yet seldom discussed organization to continue, a courageous and creative crew of newcomers must step forward and pick up where students before them left off. Think you’re up for the challenge?

“ECRadio is a great outlet for students who love music but aren’t necessarily musically inclined,” said current sophomore Courtney Ferreira. “It’s the club where any student can fit in.”

No matter your taste, there’s a niche for you.

During its golden years, weeknight programming was stacked with hour-long blocks of sports, gossip and political talk radio and enough generic indie rock to make even Allston’s hippest feel slightly inadequate. Those days are over, but they don’t have to be.

“People seem to have the wrong impression about ECRadio,” said O’Toole, who will be graduating next month. “What we’re doing is giving students the chance to have some fun.”

What should have been a cakewalk for the Emmanuel Saints Women’s Basketball team Tuesday night turned out to have the ferocity and stone cold edge of a Heavyweight Title bout.

The number one seed Saints faced off against the eighth seed Rivier Raiders in the Quarter finals of the GNAC playoffs looking to make good of their 19-5 regular season record.

The first half went back and forth each team exchanging blows, struggling to find their rhythm. The Saints gave up most of their points in the low post off of broken plays pushing the Raiders to show tenacity, scrambling for balls and finishing tough shots. The tone of the game was set early as both teams dug in, squared up, letting the humming atmosphere of the packed gymnasium fuel the fire, encouraging no shortage of flying elbows. The Saints remained poised however, and pressuring the point-guard full court, forced a few turnovers which would prove to sway the momentum of the first period. Iman Davis calmed the offense and it was neck in neck as the first half dwindled to a close until the Saints unleashed a hail of threes with a couple minutes left, walking into the break up by nine.

The Saints came out firing on all cylinders in the second half pounding the hardwood with a five-player full-court press, leaving Kristen Lebel, Tiaunna Nieves and Casey Shevlin scorching the top of the key like bandits. The fevering pace would break soon after however, and late in the second half the Raiders came galloping back with the blunt force of a freight train cutting the lead to five with two minutes left.

The tension on the court spilled over to the sidelines and cascaded into the crowd due to questionable calls going for both sides.

With the fate of the game so near at hand Raiders coach Kelly O’Connell was storming the court relentlessly, screaming her protests. Saints coach Andy Yosinoff could barely hold in his emotion bursting out in his signature squeals of disgust, tearing at what hair he has left. Even the crowd was growing rambunctious, parents and students alike taught with rage, one bellowing out to the gym after a hard foul, “That was assault!”

The Rivier Express was derailed just in time, the Saints stopping the onslaught with lock-down defense and stifled the surge with two clutch free throws knocked down by Lebel.

The clock ticked to zero with the Saints holding the Raiders at bay, 68-60.

They lace up again on Thursday night against the Simmons College Sharks who are coming off of a big upset win against fourth seed Emerson.

The GNAC Semifinals will tip-off at 7pm at Emmanuel’s Jean Yawkey Center gymnasium.
