Could Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers be headed to New England?

By: Brendan Tyman

After an earth shattering event this weekend, New England now has the salary-cap room and resources to make a big move. One name being mentioned is Julius Peppers.

Peppers is an athletic freak. He is 6’7″, 270 pounds, and he he runs a 4.68 40 -yard dash. After the Carolina Panthers were ousted in the NFC Divisional Playoffs, Peppers stated that he wanted to play for a 3-4 defense.

Bill Belichick has coached a 3-4 defense for a long time. Columnists are saying that Belichick could utilize Peppers like he did Lawerence Taylor (perhaps the most dominant defensive player of all time) during his time as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants.

The Pats would have to give up multiple picks and perhaps a proven commodity from their roster. They have three 2nd round picks and just freed up $18 million in salary-cap space.

It is not known if the Patriots will acquire Peppers, but these next 6 weeks leading up to the draft have just become more intriguing.
