Emmanuel Women’s Soccer Team Advances to GNAC Semifinals

The Emmanuel Saints defeated Albertus Magnus College ( 4-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinals.

The  second-seeded Saints (13-5-1) were paced by Senior midfielder Kate McKenna, who netted two goals. They out-shot the 7th-seeded Falcons 11-7.

Sophomore Melanie Hoffman scored on a great pass from Junior Amber DiNucci in the 16th minute of the game. This goal proved to be the game-winner as the Saints shut out Albertus Magnus. DiNucci increased her total in assists to 17, which leads all GNAC players.

McKenna potted the next goal on a corner kick set up by Senior Megan Long with a corner kick in the opening half. Emmanuel continued to dominated the rest of the half with the Falcons only notching one shot on goal. At the break, the score stayed 2-0.

The third goal was scored on a penalty kick from McKenna after she was taken down by a defender in the box. This was McKenna’s 21st goal on the season. She has recently been named to the ESPN The Magazine  Academic All-District Team.

The final tally was made by DiNucci, who placed the shot on the left side of the net. Freshman forward Elizabeth Blasser found DiNucci running down the right side on a breakaway.

Rookie goalkeeper Jessica D’Ottavio had her 6th shutout of the year. She recorded seven saves for the squad.

In the midst of a seven game winning streak, the Saints will take on the 6th-seeded Blue Jays of Saint Joesph College (11-5-3) (CT) at 7 P.M.  on Wednesday. The match will take place at Roberto Clemente Field. These two teams only played in one other contest this season with the Blue Jays taking a 2-1 overtime victory ove Emmanuel.
