Emmanuel Women’s Basketball Team Pulls Off Upset Over Brandeis University

In an impressive display of basketball, the Emmanuel Women’s Basketball team pulled off  a stunning 78-67 upset over 14th-ranked Brandeis University at the Jean Yawkey Center on Tuesday night.

Senior guard Iman Davis led all scorers with 25 points. She added 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals in the effort.

The Saints (5-0) ran out to an early 8-0 lead before Brandeis roared back to take a 23-19 advantage with 5:35 left in the opening half. This would be the Judges’ biggest lead of the contest.

Emmanuel would end the half on a 16-9 run. They were feeling confident that they could compete among one of the best squads in the nation.

In the second half, the Saints played even better than the opening 20 minutes. They had a 21-7 run to open things. Junior guard Kristin LeBel and Davis set the pace by combining for 15 points during this stretch. The score was 56-39.

Everyone was waiting for the Judges (5-2) to make a push because they are too talented. They cut the deficit to five at 56-51 with just over six minutes left.

During the final stanza, the Emmanuel players were able to knock down their free throws and close out a huge win.

The Saints shot 16 of 19 from the line in the last five minutes. Overall, they converted 82.1%.

From the field, Emmanuel shot 45% while holding Brandeis to just 35%.

LaBel added 15 points and Junior point guard Casey Shevlin had 10 points and 4 assists.

The team had 19 points off their fast-break and made 10 steals.

The Women’s squad will be in action again on Saturday, December 5th when they host Endicott College with tip-off at 1 P.M.
